1. there probably wasn't a classical guitarist alive in the 's and 60's who didn't know by heart all of segovia's decca albums and julian bream's spectacular recordings for RCA and westminster. this set will be a stroll down memory lane for everyone with segovia's schott editions in the attic, and essential listening for anyone interested in the classical guitar or in discovering a genuine /5(35).

2. Hearing Julian Bream gracefully play through these beautiful (and very difficult) guitar pieces is a true joy. This album is for anyone who appreciates the music of the period or the instrument that is played on.

3. Bream's guitar interpretations of two of J.S. Bach's lute suites are excellent, and offer an interesting contrast with John Williams' recording of the same pieces. Throughout this disc, Bream's tone is superb, and his instrumental technique infallible. It certainly takes an assured master to play the chaconne from Bach's Violin Partita in D minor/5(12).

4. This page is dedicated to all the editions that Julian Bream has published. Bream took a lot of care into taking a piece of established work and making it all his own. Weather is was a solo piece already arranged for guitar or a large suite written several hundred years ago for a harpsichord or cello, Bream would deconstruct it and give it new.

The set comprises Bream's solo Dowland LP ()--his debut solo recording, played on lute--and his solo Bach LP (), both originally recorded on the Westminster label and justly celebrated at the time.
