  1. Sony seems to have improved the track indexing on this repackaged recording. The original CBS Masterworks CD lumped the four movements of Rapsodie espagnole into a single track. I wouldn't call Maazel's performance essential, but it is okay if you are looking for Ravel's works played by /5(15).

  6. get to the core of Ravel's music while overcoming its technical and interpretive challenges with quite the grace that she does. Those these pieces (the Piano Concerto in G, Jeux d'eau and her astounding Gaspard de la nuit) are available on other CD's, but they shine here in particularly brilliant relief to the orchestral pieces which are the bulk of the program/5(12).

  8. Composer Maurice Ravel said of Ernesto Lecuona's work: "Malagueña is more beautiful and melodic than my Bolero." Ernesto Lecuona was credited with bringing the rumba and conga rhythms to North America and his charming songs Malagueña and Andalucía were hits under their English titles, "At the Crossroads" and "The Breeze and I".
